My Philosophy

Holistic, person-centered care

The foundation of my treatment philosophy is an individualized approach to each patient with a focus on them as a whole person. This involves getting to know each person in all areas of their life & then co-creating a comprehensive approach to not just treating the presenting challenges but also focusing on improving & enhancing overall wellness & resilience.

I am committed to providing the highest quality psychiatric care to all people regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or socioeconomic status. I strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, welcome and valued.

I focus on utilizing wellness approaches including diet & exercise along with social, spiritual & creative pursuits. I may also recommend other practices including psychotherapy, behavioral activation, physical therapy, educational/vocational support, peer/community support, alternative/complementary therapies & medication/somatic therapies.

When utilizing medications, I believe in a "less is more" approach including:

  • minimizing medication burden

  • preferring medications that target more than one presenting concern

  • maintaining a focus on side effects & risks of each medication throughout the course of treatment

  • exploring the possibility of "deprescribing" (gradually tapering & possibly discontinuing medications) whenever possible
